Brain Tumor Types

Tumors are categorized according to the tissue from which the cancer cell developed. The most common brain tumors are gliomas that come from the glial tissue. Different types of gliomas are:

Astrocytomas – develop from astrocytes and may develop from the brain or spinal cord. This usually occurs in the cerebrum, the largest portion of the brain that controls speech, emotions and thinking.

Glioblastomas – malignant astrocytomas that aggressively grows and spreads, and usually occur in adults at the age range of 45 to 70.

Brain stem gliomas – originate from the brainstem and is difficult to treat. These are usually high grade astrocytomas.
