Understanding Cancer Pain

The level of pain caused by cancer depends on the type of cancer, its stage and the patient’s tolerance to pain. The pain experienced by cancer patients are caused by any or all of the following:

- poor blood circulation due to blocked blood vessels
- bone fracture due to metastasis
- infection
- inflammation
- pressure exerted by a tumor on a nerve
- side effect from treatments like radiation and chemotherapy
- psychological and emotional stress

Most of the time, pain is experienced when cancer is in an advanced stage. Brain cancer patients experience severe headaches, seizures, vision problems, and gets disoriented.
