Germ cell tumors occur from developing germ cells – egg or sperm cells, also known as the sex cells. Germinoma is the most common germ cell tumor that occur in the brain. It can also develop in the ovaries for women, testicles for men, abdomen, and chest, and usually occur in children.

Pineal region tumors appear in the pineal gland which is located at the brain’s center. This gland produces the hormone that helps in the sleep-wake cycle, called melatonin. Tumor occurring in the pineal region is difficult to remove due to its hard-to-reach location.

Brain tumors that grow fast are called medulloblastomas. It is developed from the cerebellum neurons, and usually occur in children or young adults.
